You

In another world you are there
Living life completely unaware
That here I am thinking of you
I wonder, are you of me too?

What compass, device or map
Can speed up time and close the gap
So we can stumble upon each other
My friend, my life, my lover.

Because to have no one
When all you want is to love someone
Two parts to both our own song
That’s where we belong

And while for now we are both apart
I’ll be strong and will protect my heart
Ready for when both our paths cross
Finally letting go of all that’s lost

The Golden Band

There is nothing but chaos.
No fate. No destiny. No forever.
Best laid plans and promises,
Lying fat like unhatched eggs; stagnant and still.

Words trickle out and evaporate.
Of the future. Of life. Of death.
A love proclaimed and predicted,
Poured out on paper; sticky and stained.

Packing up memories and dreams in boxes,
Treasures becoming dusty trash.
Throwing away the debris of an old life
Is the darkness that brings me to dusk.

The shiny golden band
Supposed to contain the sun
Has quietly broken
Bringing sunlight to a new dawn.

Phoenix Rising

[Written 4 March 2005, revised 16 November 2014]

I’ve had to kill him you see?
This thing who I thought was part of me.
His deceit and his lies like a stab in the back.
My heart on a stake and my body on the rack.

I’ll bury him deep, deep down in the earth
Entombed in silence to ponder a rebirth.
With forgiveness to cry for and lessons to learn
The worms shall grow fat, less his heart should return.

Ash in my mouth and earth in my hair
My voice sings sweetly to cleanse the foul air.
My veins fill with fire and my temperature soars,
All bitterness releases out from my pores.

Rip open the windows and break down the door
Flames lick at my feet as they swirl through the floor.
I’m ready to burn, I’m ready to rise…
… ready to see light with my beautiful new eyes.
